Nhân dịp là đề tài thi môn Public Speaking như sau: "If you were invited to an international Youth Conference, what would you address?" (Tạm dịch: Nếu bạn được mời tới tham dự một Hội nghị Quốc tế Thanh niên, bạn sẽ nói về vấn đề gì?).

Trong lúc điên điên ko biết làm gì. Nghĩ 1 hồi và nhớ đến châm ngôn của ta: "Think different - Do different". Nên đề tài ta chọn sẽ là:..........




HOMOSEXUALITY AND THE WAY TO EQUALITY

I) Introduction

- This is my big honor to be a representative of Vietnam to take part in this conference. First, I want to send my greatest thanks to all of you for giving me this chance to stand here and share my own idea about our world.

- As you know, the world we now live is so diverse. There’re many things that the human-beings have not discovered yet. You may think that we human – including man and woman – were born to get married and have children. It is the circle of nature….. However nothing is perfect. Are you sure that when a man is born, he will love a woman when grow up?..... Have you ever seen a man holding hands another man? Or have you ever seen a woman kiss another woman?...... I don’t know what you are thinking now. But there is really another world besides ours. In that world, people show their love to others who have the same sex with them… Yes, homosexual… that is what I want to talk with you today.

II) Body

- Maybe some of you do not agree with me now and some of you think this is ridiculous, but please, do listen to me.

- I guess that most of you know what is homosexual. According to the definition on the Wikipedia: “Homosexuality is romantic or sexual attraction or behavior among members of the same sex.”… That means when a man is a homosexual person, he cannot love a woman, he just can love another man, or a woman cannot love a man but another woman. There are 4 kinds of homosexuality that they often call it short LGBT. L = les…, G=gay…, Bi = bisex, T = transex…

- Why they cannot love opposite sex as normal people? In fact, until now there is no answer for this question. But to some recent research by Sweden professors, sexual orientation exists from birth and homosexual people’s brains are really different from normal people’s (The Time – Health and Science). And this is the most persuadable evidence to explain the cause of homosexuality……I have some friends who are homosexual. They tell me that they don’t want to become this, it happens naturally, they are not attracted by the opposite sex.

- Many people consider homosexual belong to a type of mental or psyological sickness. But I do not think so, I really oppose their way of thinking. If homosexuality is a kind of sickness, why in 1973, The US National Mental Health Association no longer considered homosexuality is a kind of mental sickness and state that there is no way to cure. And in 1992, World Health Organization has eliminated homosexual from the list of mental sickness. Because it is not a sickness, it cannot infect to anybody as people thought.

- The United Nations’ research shows that there is about 4 – 8% population of the world has different sexual orientation from others and this rate is unchanged in all the human’s entire history. So if we take the smallest rate 4% à There are about 3 million people in Vietnam and more than 240 million in the world. That means they must be anywhere around us. They could be in your family, among your friends… But there is only one fifth homosexual people come-out, “come-out” is the word shows that homosexual people tell someone who they are. In Vietnam, this number is only 5% of homosexual, according to a survey by The Department of Psychology, HCMC University of Education. So you cannot recognize them until they tell you. The people anywhere you see they hold hands with the same sex people or act like the opposite sex is just a very small number.

- The main reason why most of homosexual people don’t want to come-out is: They are afraid of being hate or boycotted by society. In some societies’ ideologies, being a homosexual is considered as a crime, as a sickness or craziness in mind. And in a few countries, homosexual people can be sentenced to death if they are found. As a survey for the homosexuals in Vietnam made by The Institute for Studies of Society, Economy and Environment (iSEE), the homosexual afraid of social discrimination (40%), afraid of being unaccepted by family (39%), afraid of being laughed at (29%), afraid of losing job (10%). Thus, this reasons has made them feeling criminal. They cannot tell anybody about their life, their love… no one can share and understand them. They are easy to get depressed. Being get rid of by family, friends and if they were left in love, they could go and kill themselves. Some research shows that homosexual people have the highest rate of suicide. Moreover, because their societies do not accept them, so that they just live secretly. No marriage, no laws to protect. Some of them fall into easy lives, they hangout with many people in short time with no love. And the consequence is, HIV infection among homosexual is also the highest rate.

- However, there are many famous homosexual. For example: Alexander the Great, the very great king of Macedonia with the big empire in history; Leonardo de Vinci, one of the best artists and scientists; Christina Aguilera, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, Angelina Jolie, Adam Lamberts…etc. You see ! They are the most successful people in the world. Never judge someone by who they are. Homosexual or not, it is not important as how they live. They aren’t a criminal, they aren’t a thief or a murderer…. So why do we hate them? They are just the human like us, they deserve to have their own rights… they deserve to get married, they deserve to have family of their own… Why don’t we allow them…

In the world, there are only 8 nations accepted same-sex marriages: Belgium, Canada, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, 5 states of the United States (New Hampshire, Iowa, Massachusetts, Vermont and Connecticut) and 2 capitals of the US and Mexico. How about in other countries? Yes, they still are not treated as equal as normal people. And in there, homosexuals always dream about the future that they will be accepted as everyone, they have rights to love and show their emotions to everybody. Their ways to that goals seem to be far far away.

III) Conclusion

Dear my friends, our world still have many problems: global warming, poor people, nuclear power risk… but if we do not see what is around us, we do not care of the nearest thing, we cannot reach further issue. We come from many countries, many cultures… but we do have the same mind, we do know that we are the ones who want to make our world better. We want to bring happiness, equality and freedom to all the people. As my speech, just open your mind and do sympathize to all the homosexuals… Help them in their ways to find the rights… Because…. Because they are our friends, our family and they are also the human.

I) Introduction

... Firstly, I want to send my greatest (biggest/sincerce/grateful) thanks to all of you for giving me this chance to stand here and share my own idea(s) about our world.
- As you know, the world we now live is so diverse. There’re many things that the human-beings (human beings) have not discovered yet... It is the circle (cycle) of nature… when a man is born, he will love a woman when growing up?... Have you ever seen a man holding another man's hands another man? Or have you ever seen a woman kissing another woman?...... I don’t know what you are thinking now (I think that this sentence should be omitted). But there is really another world besides (beside) ours. In that world, people show their love to others (those) who have the same sex with (as) them… Yes, homosexual… (They're called homosexual people). That is what I want to talk with (tell) you today.

(My presentation will cover ... main points...)

II) Body

- The United Nations’ research shows that there is about 4 – 8% (of the) population of the (in) world has different sexual orientation from others and this rate is unchanged (unchanges) in all the human’s entire history... They (can) could be in your family, among your friends… But there is only one fifth (of the) homosexual people come-out (coming out),... In Vietnam, this number is only 5% of (the) homosexual... The people anywhere you see they hold hands with the same sex people or act like the opposite sex is (experiences) just a very small number.

Trước hết mình có lời khen gửi đến bạn và ý tưởng của bạn về việc nói về LGBT tại International Youth Conf :leaf12:.
Về mặt nội dung thì bài viết khá tốt vì khá chi tiết và có những dẫn chứng cụ thể và đáng tin cậy (credible references/sources).

Nếu là bài viết thì bạn nên chăm chút hơn về phần trình bày (sentence structures, word usage,...)một chút thì sẽ sẽ hay hơn, sau đây chỉ là một số ý kiến đóng góp cá nhân của mình thôi ha ;) :D

-Bạn xem lại phần dùng passive và ed cũng như v-ing một chút ha.
-Chú ý một chút về singular và plural.
-Bạn cũng có thể thỉnh thoảng thêm một vài trạng từ (abverb) để nhấn mạnh ở những điểm cần thiết hoặc làm bài viết/nói sẽ nghe trôi chảy và dễ đi vào lòng người hơn.

But there is really another world (Why we must seperate LGBT community from social community) besides ours. In that world (mentioned), people show their love to others who have the same sex with them… Yes, homosexual… that is what I want to talk with you today.

- Maybe some of you do not agree with me now and some of you (repated words) think this is ridiculous (extremely informal word) , but please, do listen to me.

- I guess that most of you know what is homosexuality. According to the definition on the Wikipedia: “Homosexuality is romantic or sexual attraction or behavior among members of the same sex.”… That means when a man is a homosexual person, he cannot love a woman, he just can love another man, or a woman cannot love a man but another woman. There are 4 kinds of homosexuality that they often call it short LGBT. L = les…, G=gay…, Bi = bisex, T = transex… ( LGBT community is not only mention to homosexuality)

But to some recent research by Sweden professors, sexual orientation exists from birth (I don't know exactly, but I do prefer "naturally-born") and homosexual people’s brains are really different from normal people’s (The Time – Health and Science). And this is the most persuadable evidence to explain the cause of homosexuality……I have some friends who are homosexuals. They tell me that they don’t want to become this (it sounds severely), it happens naturally, they are not attracted by the opposite sex.

Dream nghĩ bài của bạn, dù là speaking, nhưng vẫn chưa đủ khách quan trong câu nói. Ưu điểm của bạn là biết tham khảo và đưa dẫn chứng từ các nguồn một cách đủ và chi tiết (mình thích những ai sử dụng Wikipedia lắm :smile: ). Và khi trình bày, chỉ cần thêm một chút body laguage và vocality ổn là ok :smile:

Ngoài ra,khi represent, DK nên chuẩn bị một số hình ảnh minh họa.. Đây là hình của mình về những quốc gia cho phép same-sex marriage, không cho và nghiêm cấm..

@All: Thật sự cảm ơn các bạn đã góp ý chân thành cho DK. Thật ra mà nói khi viết ra bài này, DK cũng ko chăm chút cho grammar lắm vì chỉ định ghi cái ý cho mình nói thui, với lại khi làm bài này là chỉ còn có 3 4 tiếng nữa là vào thi rồi nên là không kịp chỉnh. Năm sau DK còn 1 bài research paper nữa (luận văn bằng tiếng Anh) dự định cũng lấy đề tài này luôn. Hy vọng với góp ý của các bạn mình sẽ có thêm động lực để hoàn thành tốt công việc.

Nhưng mình thấy một số câu bạn dùng hơi vụn và theo kiểu "dịch từ việt sang anh", dù người nghe vẫn có thể hiểu... Chú ý mạo từ và giới từ một tí nữa! (Ý kiến chủ quan của mình thôi) Nhưng có lẽ văn nói, nên cũng không quan trọng lắm...^^

Thật sự ở trong lớp mình đã come-out và nhận được sự đồng cảm của cả lớp. Nên khi đưa ra đề tài này mọi người rất là ủng hộ. Việt Nam bây giờ đã thoáng hơn rồi. Tại mọi người vẫn nghĩ rằng đề tài này tế nhị... nhưng dám nghĩ dám làm và kết quả không như chúng ta thường nghĩ ^^ ...Đây là một cách mình tuyên truyền cho cuộc đấu tranh của LGBT Việt Nam mà. Hãy làm từ những việc nhỏ nhất ^^....

nếu đây là essay thì ko được academic lắm, nhưng nếu là bài nói thì ok roài.

Nhưng có 1 vài điểm muốn chia sẻ với chủ topic
1> Academic reference nên lấy từ sách, journal, article hoặc nếu lấy từ web thì chỉ nhưng trusted sources như là BBC.com CNN.com hoặc những web .org, .gov thôi, còn wikipedia thì tuyệt đối bị cấm trong văn academic vì nó không đảm bảo độ tin cậy, do vậy giảm giá trị bài của bạn, dù nói hay viết.

2> Dù là văn nói, nhưng bạn tránh dùng ngôi thứ nhất, nên dùng bị động hoặc chủ ngữ giả it is said that, there is a tendency that, this figure has suggested.... để giảm tính chủ quan của bài.

3> Ngoài ra, khi nào bạn viết research paper, tôi có thể share cho bạn 1 web rất hữu ích nếu bạn muốn tìm thông tin về academic sources.

Theo ý kiến của mình thì Homosexual chỉ bao gồm gay và les, Bisexual và transexual đã có từ ngữ riêng để thể hiện nên ko thể gộp chung vào Homosexual! ^^

Còn "normal people" thì đúng như Arkan nói, nên dùng từ heterosexual/straight hơn! ^^

mình nghĩ bạn nên cố gắng viết với 1 ngôn ngữ formal hơn nữa ^^

thì nó sẽ lọt tai hơn. hạn chế những câu chỉ là toan I am, you are, they ere, there is, there are, etc

dùng nhiều linkin words hay phrases hơn.

Cố gắng tìm đc 1 cái frame logic hơn, chứ bài của bạn outline ra thì chỉ có 1, 2 major point(s) mà dài quá. Tức là hơi thiếu ý ý ạ, và giữa các paragraphs của bạn thì ko có sự liên kết với nhau lắm, hầu như ko có sự dẫn dắt để người nghe ( đọc ) dễ dàng hiểu đc mối liên quan giữa các khổ ( it's a vital point )

1 cái đề tài lớn thế này thì mình nghĩ nên có khoảng 4 -5 major points. Và bạn đưa ra các ví dụ thì nên là ở dạng argument thì nó sẽ mạnh hơn chứ đừng chỉ là list them out then do nothing.

Hehe, cứ mỗi lần đọc đến đoạn "Could go and Kill themselves" của bạn là mình lại cười sung sướng :D ( cười tích cực ý ).

Mình mới skim thôi chứ chưa đọc word by word nên chỉ góp ý đc vậy.

Dù sao cũng cám ơn rất nhiều vì bạn đã có 1 bài public speakin' về chúng ta ^_^

@Dream: Thực ra đây là bài presentation nhưng mà đến phút chót do không có máy chiếu nên đành nói không thui hehe..... Ủa IELTS là vậy đó hả, nhớ mình học về American English ko mà hì hì..... Thật ra thì cái Think different - do different là mình cố ý ghi vậy để nó trùng vần đó mờ

Thì trong văn phong ở đâu cũng có những phần cơ bàn như Introduction, Body, Inclusion.. Body thì có Topic Sentence, Developing Sentences (Details, Explanation, Examples..) Ielts nó hay có cái trò rào trước đón sau nên mình nghĩ vậy :). Nhưng mà nó ngắn hơn nhiều.

THINK DIFFERENT là một slogan rất nổi tiếng của APPLE từ năm 1997 :smile:

Vì đây là bài nói thôi nên grammar hoàn toàn ko đc chú trọng. Và cũng vì thế nên chỉ dẫn xuất một số ít dẫn chứng mà thôi. Bạn hãy đứng trong tư thế người nghe chả biết gì về LGBT mà nói thì chúng ta sẽ biết cách việt ra sao hè hè

Wikipedia là trang mở kiểu bách khoa toàn thư, mọi người đều có thể lên viết hay chỉnh sửa nội dung của 1 topic nào đấy và publish. Như vậy thì reliability và validity không thể bảo đảm được.

Với lại, khi em viết hay nói gì mang tính academic, thì phải đảm bảo 100% độ tin cậy vì dù chỉ 1% sai sót nhiều khi sẽ gây nên hậu quả "to lớn" phết đấy.

Còn nếu em dùng sách, academic journal thì mọi thứ đều phải qua khâu xét duyệt, kiểm ta nội dung, độ xác thực kỹ lưỡng rồi mới publish nên nó là quy chuẩn của academic reference. Ngay cả thông tin từ web đuôi .org, hoặc gov nhiều khi cũng kô được chấp nhận để làm reference.

So why didn't you explane detailly what homoseuals, bisexuals, trangenders (and I suppose you missed Intersexuals, Pansexuals.. but anyway, I don't think it neccessary )

Yeah, that's right.. IELTS, we use all of them. But usually, one writing task is contained in 250 words for task 2.
